We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Engineer to oversee complex capital works projects including water, wastewater, civil and marine infrastructure throughout our beautiful region.
The Role
A day in the life of this role sounds a little like this…
* Travel to and throughout the spectacular Torres Strait Islands.
* Provide strategic oversight and leadership in the planning, development, and execution of capital works projects.
* Oversee project governance, risk management, and compliance, ensuring projects are delivered within scope, budget, and timeline.
* Provide high-level engineering guidance and expert advice on complex projects.
* Ensure infrastructure solutions are fit-for-purpose, climate-resilient, and aligned with community needs.
* Develop financial models for project estimation, cost control, and funding applications.
* Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance infrastructure delivery and asset management.
What We're Looking For
We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. The ideal candidate will have:
* Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline)
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in project management, design, and/or construction of large-scale municipal infrastructure projects.
* Proven leadership experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and large-scale projects.
* Expertise in contract management, procurement, and financial oversight within a government or corporate environment.
* Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, environmental approvals, and cultural heritage considerations.
* Membership with Engineers Australia (Professional Member), with RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineer Queensland) highly desirable.
* Proven track record in stakeholder engagement, policy development, and high-level negotiations.
* Current "Class C" Queensland Driver's Licence.
* Knowledge of Torres Strait languages (Meriam Mer, Kala Lagaw Ya, or Creole) is required.
Other than working in one of the most beautiful regions, we are also offering the following:
* $84,422 per annum
* Based in Cairns or the Torres Strait Region
* This is a long-term, 3-year contract with the possibility of extension
