Executive-level position for a senior credit risk professional Property finance private debt fund with institutional backing Pivotal and highly visible role in a rapidly growing business Our client is seeking to appoint a new Executive responsible for Credit. This multi-billion dollar property finance company focuses primarily on the residential property sector. The majority of deals involve construction finance, land subdivision, and retained stock transactions. While this is the current strategy, the business is experiencing exponential growth, and the scope will expand to include a wider range of real estate debt-related transactions over time. Deal sizes range up to $100 million, and capital can be structured as secured, senior secured, working capital, bridge financing, mezzanine finance, and preferred equity. This role will support a large number of originators across the country as the lead for credit approval and assessment. The Head of Credit will manage a team of 5–7 risk managers across offices in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. This position will lead credit committees and participate in the investment committee, playing a fundamental role in the approval of all deals. The successful candidate will possess a strong character to effectively push back on originators with constructive solutions. As a leader within the organization, this role will work closely with leadership to educate originators about the firm’s credit appetite and successful deal structures. A key responsibility will be framing the relationship between credit and origination, which includes successfully embedding credit risk processes and policies. The ideal candidate will bring prior experience and knowledge to critique and improve current practices. Collaboration and teamwork are essential for success in this position. Candidates must have prior experience leading credit functions and teams, ideally from a competing non-bank lender within the construction and middle-market property finance space or from a leading commercial bank’s credit function for middle-market property finance transactions. We are seeking candidates at the Senior Director or Managing Director level, with a proven track record of leading teams. While international candidates may be considered, those with experience in the Melbourne market will be prioritized. This is a deal-oriented position requiring strong technical credit expertise and in-depth knowledge of the residential property sector. Candidates must have experience managing credit risk for middle-market residential construction finance deals. The role is pivotal and highly visible within the wider business, and the compensation on offer reflects its importance. The appointment is a high priority for our client.
