S&T5 (EL 1) - Digital Science Environments Manager$115,899 - $130,733 + up to 15.4% SuperannuationFishermans Bend - VICThe RoleResponsible for overseeing the sustainment, operations, policies and lifecycles of a broad range of highly complex, novel, and distributed laboratory and experimental Digital Science Environments, which have been highly specialised for research purposes.Responsible for the day-to-day management of 3rd level support specialists (both direct and indirect).Ensure that operational problems are identified, recorded, monitored and resolved, and new computational environment knowledge is documented and published.Liaise with other Scientific Computing directorates to ensure high volume, high speed capacity and performance of dependent services for laboratory systems.Ensure that Digital Science Environments sustainment plans are up to date and that current support arrangements are aligned with the OPEX allocation.Manage the closure and decommissioning of laboratory and experimental Digital Science Environments which are no longer viable.Assist the Laboratory and Experimental Systems (LES) Management Team where required in the areas of: Data Movement, Connection of Scientific Instruments, Trails and Exercise support and all network matters related to Digital Science Environments under a sustainment agreement.About our TeamDigital Science and Scientific Computing (DSSC) enables and accelerates Defence and National Security Science & Technology through leadership, facilitated access to digital research capabilities, eResearch techniques, and by provisioning secure Digital Science capabilities supported by digital research infrastructure.Within DSSC, the Laboratory & Experimental Systems (LES) Directorate enables and accelerates Defence S&T by: facilitating the secure, effective and efficient management of laboratory, synthetic, permanent-remote and segregated Digital Science environments; and by facilitating access to secure temporary-remote Digital Science environments.Our Ideal CandidateMaintain up to date knowledge of digital research infrastructure and apply expertise of applicable scientific and research methods, including digital instruments, hardware and software; to plan digital science environments that optimise research outcomes.Apply understanding of S&T principles and best practice relevant broadly to DSTG to inform decisions relating to the connection of Scientific Instruments.The Digital Science Environments Manager will manage the operations and through life cycle support of a range of cutting-edge, sustainable and secure laboratory and experimental Digital Science Environments.Partnering with DST researchers, you will help develop the concepts and realise the secure and sustainable cutting edge and field Digital Science Environments.You will also manage the resources and fleet that support Divisional Research Systems, Networks, Laboratories and Trials and Exercises.Working closely with the LES Management Team, this role will also assist with planning and transition of Digital Science Environments into sustainment to ensure through life support capability.
