A vacancy exists for the position of Power Systems Electrician at Portland Aluminium. Reporting to the Power Systems Supervisor, this position may be 8 hour day shift, 10 hour / seven day / day shift roster or 12 hour rotating shift roster.
Our Power Systems Electricians safely perform and coordinate Electrical maintenance work, including:
1. High Voltage Switching up to 500,000 Volts
2. Issue, Receipt, Relinquishment and Cancellation of all types of High Voltage permits
3. Preventive and service maintenance activities on High Voltage apparatus
4. Preparation of work scopes and project activities
5. Project supervision and co-ordination
6. isolations
7. handover to and from operations
8. completion of work activities
As a Power Systems Electrician at our Portland Smelter you will liaise with internal and external work parties to safely complete tasks to required quality and service levels.
You will optimise the performance of the process and equipment by installing, repairing, commissioning, and testing low voltage and high voltage equipment, apparatus, and components. Perform work for the repair, maintenance, installation, and modernisation of electrical systems for buildings, equipment, and grounds. Identify and eliminate waste, direct contractors when required and audit work quality.

Power Systems Electricians utilise their skills, technical knowledge, and methodologies to identify and eliminate waste, and may also direct contractors and audit work quality.

17. an Electrical Trade (Australian Apprenticeship, Tradesperson’s Rights Certificate or equivalent); and an A Grade Electrical Licence .
18. High Voltage Operator experience is preferred.
19. Advanced skills and knowledge necessary to isolate, diagnose, analyse, and rectify complex equipment related problems
20. Experience in PLC systems and motor control would be beneficial.
21. Problem-solving is a major component of this position and an essential skill requirement, along with good communication and interpersonal skills to provide technical advice and direction to others within and outside the team.
22. High levels of initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
23. Previous experience in heavy manufacturing / industrial or continuous production environment is considered advantageous.
