Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Geriatrician to join our team. The successful candidate will specialise in the care of elderly patients, focusing on managing complex medical conditions and enhancing the quality of life for older adults. The Geriatrician will work closely with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive and compassionate care tailored to the needs of the elderly population. Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive medical care to elderly patients, including the assessment, diagnosis, and management of age-related conditions and chronic diseases. Develop and implement individualised care plans based on patient assessments, medical history, and treatment goals. Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, nurses, and specialists, to ensure holistic patient care. Conduct regular evaluations and monitor the progression of chronic conditions, adjusting treatment plans as needed. Address complex medical issues related to ageing, such as cognitive impairment, frailty, and polypharmacy. Provide guidance and support to patients and their families regarding care options, advance care planning, and end-of-life decisions. Educate and train healthcare staff on geriatric care principles and best practices. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and treatment strategies. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including patient histories, treatment plans, and progress notes. Stay current with advancements in geriatrics and participate in professional development activities. Qualifications: Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution. Completion of a residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, with additional fellowship training in Geriatrics preferred. Board certification or eligibility in Geriatrics. Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Proven experience in geriatric medicine and managing complex medical conditions in elderly patients. Strong knowledge of age-related diseases, treatments, and geriatric care principles. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Compassionate and patient-centred approach to care.
