The Role
Your primary responsibility will be to lead and manage a team to deliver Council’s building compliance and certification services, swimming pool safety program, fire safety and essential services functions and services. In addition to having a relevant tertiary qualification in building surveying, you will be a registered Building Surveyor with NSW Fair Trading -restricted all classes of buildings (formerly A2) or Building Surveyor - unrestricted (formerly A1) with at least 5 years management experience in building compliance and or regulatory services.
Key Responsibilities
3. Provide sound leadership and management to a team of Senior Building Surveyors – Certification and Fire Safety and Building Compliance Officers.
4. Ensure compliance with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993, Swimming Pools Act 1992, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Food Act 2003, Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 and Regulation 2020, Boarding Houses Act 2012, Building Products (Safety Act) 2017, Building Professionals Act 2005 Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (DPB Act) and the Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance and Enforcement Powers) Act 2020 (RAB Act ) and other relevant legislation.
5. Investigate, assess, determine, and resolve customer action requests, enquiries, complaints, applications in a timely, customer focused and professional manner.
6. Act as an authorised officer and exercise delegated authority, to issue notices, orders, directions, and penalty infringements and undertake enforcement responsibilities.
7. Inspect premises or land for compliance with relevant legislation, criteria and standards and implement enforcement and compliance action to satisfy relevant legislation, criteria, and standards.
8. Prepare statements of evidence and represent Council in the Land and Environment Court and Local Court, where required.
9. Prepare reports, statistical information and documentation as required by the department or Council.
