We are actively currently seeking to recruit a Project Geologist – Open Pit to join our Southern Cross operation on a fixed term contract until the end of 2025. This position will be 8 days on 6 days off BIBO from Perth; however, other travel options are available for professionals not residing in Perth.
About the role:The successful applicant will join a small dynamic team of individuals from diverse and culturally different backgrounds that support each other. The Project Geologist – Open Pit will be an integral member of the team responsible for the updating of grade control mining models, supervision of daily tracking of production operations and liaising with other technical professionals in relation to the safe and efficient execution of the open pit production operations. Reporting to and supported by Senior Geologist – Open Pits, the role will include collaboration with the processing department regarding stockpile accounting, and the Exploration & Resource Definition teams regarding drilling on logging data generation operations.
About you:The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years' experience in a mine geology role, with a preference of open pit operations for at least three years' experience. More importantly, character attributes of self-driven team player individuals integrating themselves into the different technical departments, establishing professional relationships to facilitate collaborative work environments, while communicating effectively across a broad group of stakeholders will be highly regarded. Essential to being successful in consideration for this role: Tertiary qualifications in Geology.5 years' experience in geological mining operations with at least 3 years in an open pit environment.Demonstrated keen attention to detail and proactiveness.Professional planning, analytical, report writing and communication skills.High level administrative skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.Knowledge and exposure to grade control block model estimation processes.Desirable to be successful in consideration for this role: Open pit gold mining experience desirable but not essential.Knowledge of 3D mining software packages Leapfrog and Surpac being desirable.Knowledge of differences between owner operated and earth moving contractor open pit operations desirable but not essential.Duties and Responsibilities will include: Supporting the Senior Open Pit Geologist regarding the generation and updating of the operational open pit grade control models.Supervising the mine geologists with regards to tracking and reporting ore movements and grade control operations on daily, weekly and monthly cycles.Ensuring the Geology Department provides high quality technical services to the Mining, Environmental and Processing Departments.Ensure appropriate geological and mining activity reports are compiled in a timely manner.Reporting of safety observations, including hazards and interactions.Culture:The success to date of the Barto Geological Department is underpinned by adhering to the company values of Care, Respect, Innovation, Teamwork and Integrity.
