Deputy Secretary, General Counsel

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Counsel to join our executive team in The Cabinet Office.
Lead and direct the provision of expert legal advice and governance services.
Oversee the Cabinet support functions to ensure effective and efficient systems for Government decision-making.
This is an ongoing Public Service Senior Executive Band 3 role, based in Martin Place, Sydney.
About the role.
As the Deputy Secretary, General Counsel, The Cabinet Office, you will act as the primary legal advisor to the Secretary and the Premier, leading and directing the provision of expert legal advice and governance services.
You will be accountable for the quality of legal services provided, ensuring the provision of strategic advice on diverse and complex legal priorities and legislative matters.
This role involves managing the Government’s legislative agenda, providing legal counsel to the Premier and Cabinet, and overseeing the department’s governance functions.
Essential requirements for this role.
Be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW.
Be able to provide an Unrestricted Practising Certificate before you start work with us.

Have relevant legal qualifications and substantial experience in providing expert and authoritative legal advice.
Have a high-level understanding of key legal issues and challenges facing NSW.
Have high level leadership skills, including managing other executives, and proven capacity to collaborate across complex organisations.
Have the ability to think strategically and provide sound legal advice.
You have excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues, identify risks and devise effective solutions.
