About the role
The Clinical Placements Coordinator plays a pivotal role in facilitating and coordinating clinical placements for professional practice experiences for all undergraduate nursing students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing programs. The Clinical Coordinator serves as the key liaison between the University, Health Care institutions, clinical sites, Clinical Preceptors/Facilitators and students to facilitate a positive learning environment and promote the integration of theoretical knowledge with clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with academic course coordinators and faculty support departments to identify, plan and implement clinical placements, clinical rotations and evaluations for students each semester.
* Liaise and collaborate with healthcare facilities including hospitals, clinics and health care agencies to secure clinical placement opportunities for students.
* Negotiate placement agreements, contracts, and affiliation agreements with clinical sites, ensuring compliance with institutional, University and regulatory requirements.
* Develop and provide orientation and information sessions for students to prepare them for clinical placement, including site specific policies, procedures and expectations.
* Serve as a point of contact and resource for students during their clinical placements. Addressing questions, concerns and issues as they arise.
* Manage and address student communications and inquiries to mitigate issues and barriers to student placement.
* Recruit and onboard qualified clinical preceptors/Facilitators to serve as mentors and supervisors for student during clinical/practicum placements.
* Maintain accurate and up to date records and documentation for student placement, Facilitator credentials, affiliation agreements and other relevant records.
* Maintain open communication channels with course coordinators, clinical preceptors, and healthcare facility representatives to facilitate collaboration and resolve issues.
* Engage with academic partners in developing and designing processes to facilitate effective onboarding for student learners and enhance the student experience.
Qualifications, skills & experience
* Postgraduate qualifications in Nursing, Midwifery or area of speciality.
* Current registration with AHPRA with no notations and/or restrictions
* Minimum 5 years post registration in healthcare education, clinical coordinator or related field.
* Expert Knowledge of healthcare industry regulations, accreditation standards for nursing education programs and clinical placement best practices
* Proven experience in the preceptorship/mentorship and supervision of nursing students/junior staff within a clinical setting
* Knowledge and Experience with SONIA and CLIN-CONNECT databased systems - Highly Desirable
* Understanding and Supportive the Objects and the Catholic ethos of the University.
* Knowledge of the registered nurse standards for practice.
* Well-developed knowledge of nursing education principles, clinical teaching methods, and student assessment techniques
* Excellent time management skills and ability to work autonomously when required.
