As the Governance Officer, your role is integral to the support of Council's governance functions, including managing delegations, corporate planning, and compliance. This role is key to ensuring Council meets its statutory obligations whilst driving transparency and best practices in governance.
Key responsibilities include:
* Delegations, Authorisations, and Committees: Oversee delegation processes and provide support to Community Asset Committees. Maintain registers of authorisations and committees.
* Corporate Planning and Reporting: Coordinate Council's 4-year plan, annual reports, and quarterly reviews, ensuring compliance with planning frameworks.
* Local Government Performance Reporting and Surveys: Manage the Local Government Performance Reporting Framework and annual Community Satisfaction Survey.
* Freedom of Information (FOI) and Privacy: Act as the FOI and Privacy Officer, ensuring policies are current and providing training and advice.
* Compliance and Elections: Manage compliance registers and support Council's obligations for Local Government elections.
About You:
To support your success in this role you will have:
* Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and provide advice on statutory and other procedural requirements and to implement, monitor and maintain systems and registers to ensure compliance.
* A highly developed knowledge and understanding of governance, risk management, FOI, corporate planning and reporting.
* Extensive knowledge of Corporate Planning and Reporting, including the compilation of Annual Reports.
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills with attention to detail: including the ability to provide advice on a range of issues, facilitate workshops for varied audiences, review and prepare written guidelines, policy, procedures, reports, correspondence and briefs.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to work with changing priorities in a changing environment within strict timeframes.
* Highly developed negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to gain commitment and work with staff across all levels of the organisation, Councillors and members of the public.
To be successful in this role you will have significant experience in a similar role, with demonstrated experience in corporate planning and reporting, compliance, Freedom of Information and Privacy.
A relevant tertiary qualification in a governance/compliance/legal or a business-related discipline is preferred.
