The Commercial Manager will lead and administer commercial activities, contract negotiations, and procurement processes within the Australian Standard for Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON) framework.
This role ensures compliance with Defence procurement policies, mitigates risks, and optimises contractual outcomes, aligned with the company's strategic objectives and risk appetite.
You will serve as a key advisor, providing commercial expertise for significant procurement initiatives and managing complex contract portfolios.
About You: As a Commercial Manager you will perform the following responsibilities:
Contract & Commercial Management: Lead and negotiate Defence contracts using ASDEFCON templates.Ensure compliance with Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs) and Defence procurement policies.Provide strategic guidance on contract terms, risk management, and commercial strategies.Manage commercial contracts, subcontracts, and IP licensing agreements, ensuring alignment with company risk appetite and regulatory requirements.Contribute to the full procurement lifecycle, including RFT preparation, evaluation, and contract award.Develop procurement strategies that align with Defence requirements and enterprise objectives, in conjunction with key stakeholders.Engage with suppliers and stakeholders effectively throughout the procurement process.Risk & Compliance Management: Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks in line with the company's risk appetite.Ensure compliance with ASDEFCON, CPRs, and Defence security requirements.Develop commercial policies that support regulatory compliance and business objectives.Support governance processes, internal reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.Foster and maintain strong relationships with Defence stakeholders, industry partners, and suppliers.Facilitate contract performance reviews and manage contract variations or disputes.Provide commercial guidance to internal teams, including finance and project management.Qualifications & Experience: Extensive experience in Defence contracting and procurement within the ASDEFCON framework.Strong understanding of CPRs, Defence Industry Security Program (DISP), and Australian Defence procurement processes.Proven experience in contract negotiation, risk management, and supplier engagement.Experience working with Defence Primes, SMEs, or Government agencies in a commercial capacity.Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, law, commerce, or supply chain management (preferred).Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.Security Clearance: Applicants are required to be Australian Citizens and be eligible to hold and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
