The Role
The Aerodromes Maintenance Program Sponsor develops and implements the Aerodrome Maintenance Program across all certified and non-certified RAAF Aerodromes. The maintenance program ensures individual Aerodrome certifications are sustained IAW DASR.139 regulations and applicable aerodrome standards.
The Aerodrome Maintenance Program Sponsor will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to governance of the Aerodrome Maintenance Program. Providing direct support to the Chief Aerodromes Engineer, they will oversee the National Airbase Network maintenance program to ensure Aerodromes are sustained in a condition to support safe flight operations.
* Key liaison with internal and external service providers to establish priorities, provide advice and work collaboratively to ensure:
* Aerodrome maintenance schedules and routines continue to meet the design requirements.
* Technical inspections of facilities confirm they remain fit for their intended purpose and acceptable for use.
* The engagement of suitably qualified personnel to conduct aerodrome maintenance activities.
* Monitor industry for developments that may influence aerodrome maintenance requirements.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.

The Aerodrome Operator team assists with delivering Defence capability by supporting certified aerodromes that are well maintained and sustain safe flight operations from Defence Bases across Australia. We deliver a range of functions to satisfy the Aerodrome Maintenance Program, suitably qualified, competent and authorised individuals and/or organisations carry out assuring appropriate ongoing maintenance.
