Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.

This opportunity is suitable for recent veterinary graduates or more experienced veterinarians looking to move to an operational state government role and must be based in North Queensland.

As an Operational Veterinarian in the frontline veterinary team you will:
* Provide professional skills and knowledge to conduct animal disease investigations and surveillance, undertake analysis using epidemiological principles and provide animal welfare advice.
* Develop and maintain effective local relationships, networks and partnerships with veterinary professionals, and wider government, industry and community stakeholders to promote good animal biosecurity and welfare practices.
* Contribute to the existing systems for animal health information collection, validation and analysis to ensure risks to trade and public health are effectively managed.
It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.
