Aboriginal applicants will be granted priority consideration for this vacancy.Primary objective: To provide high-quality operational and administrative support for the development and implementation of effective wildlife management programs, particularly concerning the management of saltwater crocodiles for public safety, and the effective application of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act.Key duties and responsibilities:Assist with the implementation and safe delivery of the problem saltwater crocodile management program for the Northern Territory.Assist with the implementation of law enforcement and compliance activities concerning wildlife offences on crocodiles and other wildlife as they relate to the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act and the sustainable use of crocodiles.Assist with implementing the training and mentoring of a small team using well-developed interpersonal skills and a professional attitude.Ensure compliance with the responsible use of resources, including managing the Crocodile Unit budget.Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, financial management systems, equal opportunities, and the Northern Territory Public Sector principles and code of conduct.Assist in providing support and advice for Crocodile Sustainable Use programs including surveying, inspections and compliance, and implementation of the Northern Territory Crocodile Management Plan.Selection criteria:Essential:A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; and significant relevant experience in practical wildlife management activities for crocodiles and other problem wildlife.Demonstrated experience in the supervision, development, and management of staff with a proven understanding of and commitment to WHS standards.Demonstrated ability in the preparation of written reports, standard operating procedures, budgetary planning and implementation, project planning, and management/organisation of task plans.Demonstrated interpersonal skills to function effectively as a team member and communicate effectively with the broader community.Demonstrated practical knowledge, experience, and programming in relation to equipment maintenance and general repairs.Good level of physical fitness with a proven ability to conduct fieldwork effectively and safely in remote locations under minimal supervision.Current Senior First Aid Certificate, NT drivers license, and Coxswain Certificate.Desirable:Certificate IV in Government Investigations or the ability to obtain.Further information:Employees may be exposed to infectious disease during the handling and capturing of animals.
