ARAS is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the role of Supporting Legal Practitioner to provide limited legal services in the aged care sector (new position, full-time or part-time). Fixed term contract expiring 30 June 2025, extending pending funding. The purpose of the role of is to provide legal information, education, advice and support for ARAS Advocates in their work with clients to help empower them to make their own choices and have their legal rights and interests respected. The Supporting Legal Practitioner reports to the Supervising Legal Practitioner and is responsible for ensuring that services are provided in a manner which is consistent with the purpose, vision, and values of ARAS, and comply with relevant legislation, quality standards, contemporary research and practice. The incumbent is required to provide high quality legal advice (including drafting legal documents) and representation on complex and sensitive matters. Renumeration is at SCHADS L6. About the Organisation ARAS is the South Australian component of the National Aged Care Advocacy Program and is funded by the Australian Department of Health. This position will support their supervisor to establish and conduct a newly established limited legal services assisting ARAS clients across South Australia. Specific employment requirements The applicant must: i. possess appropriate tertiary qualifications in law, ii. be admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia. iii. hold or be eligible to hold a Category A or B practicing certificate or be willing to qualify for one by undertaking a Legal Practice Management Course. iv. have a minimum of three year’s post admission experience in legal practice or its equivalent gained within a legal department of a private sector business or government office, v. have excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills, and Additional Requirements • Satisfactory National Police Clearance required. • Working with Vulnerable Persons Check • Vaccinations as required from time to time to allow entry to RACFs, at present this may include annual influenza vaccination, and COVID-19 vaccination. • Current driving licence and willingness to drive for work purposes. • Travel may be required within South Australia.
