About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) to support the Maternal & Child Health Nurses in providing culturally appropriate services for Aboriginal children (0-5 years) and their families. This role is part of the Aboriginal Maternal and Child Health Initiative (AMCHI) in Victoria, aimed at improving health outcomes and closing the gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work with the Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Community to implement the AMCHI program.
* Support families with birth registration, Medicare, Centrelink, childcare enrolment, and parenthood transition.
* Connect families with playgroups, baby groups, and women’s groups.
* Provide crisis support for essential household needs.
* Offer referrals to relevant support services and assist families in engaging with them.
* Promote culturally appropriate health strategies, including breastfeeding, safe sleep, smoking cessation, and early childhood development.
* Facilitate access to immunisation programs and follow-ups.
* Conduct home visits with Maternal & Child Health Nurses.
* Assist with service data collection and reporting.
About You:
* Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and health challenges.
* Experience working with Aboriginal families in a health or social services setting.
* Excellent communication, advocacy, and organisational skills.
* Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Current driver’s licence for home visits.
