passionate about providing strategic legal advice on litigation and public law issues which affect ASIC as a Commonwealth body. Experience with Commonwealth litigation is desired. Work closely with business teams, Comcover, and external lawyers. Supervise junior staff and grow your skills in a supportive environment with ongoing training and diverse legal work.

The team
The
Litigation and Public Law team (of Corporate Legal Services)
is responsible for responding to legal and other claims against ASIC, its members and staff, and advising the Commission, executives and operational teams on legal issues that apply to ASIC as a non-corporate Commonwealth entity.
The role
As a
Senior Lawyer within Corporate Legal Services, you will:
Provide and coordinate expert legal advice and tactical guidance on claims against ASIC, its members, and staff.
Offer strategic advice on Commonwealth policies and legislation applicable to ASIC.
Assess legislative changes and other developing issues relevant to ASIC and identify and manage legal risks within ASIC's risk framework and reporting structures. Advise on ASIC's compliance and reporting obligations.
Supervise junior lawyers and collaborate with other legal professionals and stakeholders.
About you
Legal qualifications and eligibility for a Restricted Legal Practicing Certificate in Australia.
6+ years PAE as a lawyer, with experience in government, in-house legal teams, or law firms.
Desired experience in litigation defending the Commonwealth or other government bodies will be highly regarded.
Strong legal advice writing and verbal communication skills with excellent organisational and time management skills.
Knowledge of the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, financial services legislation, PGPA Act, Legal Services Directions, and other relevant laws and policies.
