About the Role
The Special Projects Officer will lead the management and delivery of the Merri Common and surrounds project. More specifically, they will oversee the planning, design, community engagement, and construction to revitalise and enhance the 4 sites in the project area. They will ensure the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards, while maintaining consistent project management practices and meeting stakeholder requirements. In this position you will:
• Provide expert technical advice on project and contract management to internal and external clients, including addressing land development issues such as contamination and environmental sustainability.
• Procure and thoroughly analyse concepts, detailed plans, drawings, and specifications for building and leisure/parks projects, ensuring compliance with project goals and regulatory standards. Develop comprehensive project reports, including briefs, tenders, regular progress reports, and handover notes, to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
• Deliver projects within delegated authority, leveraging assistance and support from the line manager as needed to ensure project milestones are met.
• Assist project managers at all levels within Parks & Open Space, and other internal departments, fostering a collaborative and supportive project management environment.
Skills & Experience
• Relevant qualifications and/or experience in building, park infrastructure or engineering, with strong experience in managing complex projects from start to finish.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively, including financial management, timeline adherence, and quality control.
• Strong skills in analysis, problem-solving, and investigation to manage project complexities.
• A commitment to understanding and meeting community needs, and ensuring decisions benefit the community.
• Commitment to achieving positive social and sustainable outcomes throughout the project.
