SIH provides comprehensive data services to the University's research community, through consulting, training and support for bioinformatics, data science, AI, research computing, software engineering, and statistics. SIH is an official node of the Australian BioCommons, which aims to enhance the productivity, capability and capacity of Australian research biologists and research bioinformaticians.About the opportunityIn this role, you will manage a team of software engineers based at the Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH) to deliver data analytics and management tools, and platforms to the life science community, as a part of the Australian BioCommons' BioCloud.Your key responsibilities will be to:work in a collaborative, dynamic and multidisciplinary team reporting to the Informatics Team Leadeffectively manage and mentor a team of two software engineers initially and up to 6 software engineers in future, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovationcollaborate with Australian BioCommons and other Sydney Informatics Hub teams to develop a portfolio of impactful cyberinfrastructure projects supporting the life sciencesensure operational excellence through code quality, documentation, and team collaborationcontribute to the strategic direction of SIH and the BioCloud project in conjunction with leadershipbuild stakeholder relationships with other leaders at the University, the Australian BioCommons leadership and nationally to enable collaboration and knowledge-sharingAbout youYou are an experienced software engineering leader with a passion for life sciences and a desire to create impact. You bring:postgraduate qualification, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training in a relevant fieldextensive experience in software and web development, involving Python, React, and NextJS (Other equivalent experience will also be considered)proven experience with modern software engineering best practices including source code management, version control, integrated testing, and CI/CDdemonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams in a collaborative, agile environmentstrong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively, handle competing priorities and deliver in a fast-paced environmentexcellent written and verbal communication skillsability to foster and maintain diverse relationships between internal and external stakeholdershigher education experience would be highly regarded.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
