Your Opportunity: Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service has established an innovative new Crisis Support Space service, as part of a Statewide trial to enhance mental health crisis care for people experiencing distress and/or suicidality.
This consumer-centred after-hours service, which provides a safe and welcoming space as an alternative to an emergency department setting, is a peer-led model that aims to improve outcomes and experiences for consumers and their loved ones.The Crisis Support Space Advanced Peer Worker will work under direction to facilitate the development, planning and delivery of supports to consumers of the mental health service.
An Advanced Peer Worker utilises their lived experience of mental health issues to model recovery strategies and assist consumers, carers and families, service providers and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) to develop a better understanding of the recovery framework and work towards achieving the best outcomes for consumers.As this service is new and developing, the Crisis Support Space Peer Worker will work with the Peer team and Senior Mental Health Clinicians to contribute to the ongoing monitoring and review of the service and will be flexible and adaptable to change in response to service and consumer needs.What we're looking for: Demonstrated ability to share lived experience of recovery to assist consumers and staff within the role.Demonstrated knowledge of recovery principles and strength-based approach in working with consumers who have mental health issues.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with consumers, carers, families, the community, health professionals and all service providers, while promoting an understanding of mental health.Demonstrated ability to relate, empathise with, be aware of and see issues from the perspective of a consumer, their carers and families.Demonstrated ability to show proactive and effective communication skills by actively listening, conveying consumer's requirements clearly and fluently, displaying appropriate empathy and adapting style accordingly.Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries.Demonstrated skills in computer literacy.Demonstration ability to advocate for the consumer perspective to identify service improvement.Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver psycho education programs and groups to mental health service consumers.Preferred Qualifications: A personal lived experience of mental illness and recovery and ability to advocate for and support people experiencing mental illness is a mandatory requirement for this position.A previous service user of mental health services and experience as a mental health consumer (public or private) is a mandatory requirement for this position.Possession or working towards a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent will be highly regarded.Experience working within a public mental health service, or the NGO sector will be highly regarded.This position requires the incumbent to work a roster that involves mostly out-of-hours and/or weekend shifts, including public holidays, which may be subject to change as the service is evaluated.Under 25s of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to have a personal lived experience of mental illness and recovery and/or caring for someone with a lived experience of mental illness and recovery.Why join us? comprising salary rates $45.81 - $50.47 p.h., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (AO4) (Permanent Part Time, 32 hours p.f.).
