Job Description
About the role:
The Lead Design Engineer will spearhead the development and refinement of innovative engineering solutions across a range of projects. The primary responsibility will be to oversee the design process from concept through to completion, ensuring that all products meet high standards of quality, functionality, and reliability, with close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product managers, manufacturers, and other engineers, to translate project requirements into detailed technical specifications and prototypes. Other responsibilities include
* Presenting creative and practical engineering design concepts
* Leading and managing the engineering & drafting team.
* Coordinating design projects, makes detailed plans to accomplish goals.
* Directing, reviewing, and approving product design and changes.
* Being a trusted technical advisor and subject matter expert; keeping current on technology developments through continuing professional development (CPD).
* Coordinating the preparation of project budgets, schedules, and resources.
* Preparing cost analysis on the development of new products (AFE) for opex or capex assets.
* Managing schedules for engineering, design, drafting & fabrication works
* Coordinating with manufacturing to create prototypes and field test equipment, ensures regular communication to ensure that products are designed for manufacturing.
* Creating detailed engineering plans, processes, procedures and standards.
* Quality assurance checks and product certification.
* Leading weekly engineering meetings to ensure critical next steps, owners and dates are clearly communicated for on time project delivery.
* Coaching and developing the engineering team members; ensuring adequate resourcing and training needs.
* Developing relationships and fosters collaboration with functions including Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Business Development, and Operations to drive project delivery.
* Promoting a safe work environment and supports compliance to regulatory requirements as applicable.
Desired Skills and Experience
About you:
The successful applicant will be a clear communicator, have a proactive outlook and be results and timeline driven. The successful applicant will have the following:
* Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics
* RPEQ Certification
* Minimum of 10 years’ experience in design & Engineering
* Strong leadership skills
* Project Management skills
* Product quality & certification management experience
