About the role
In the role of Inspector of Mines – Electrical, you will form part of a dynamic team responsible for administering the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022. Your demonstrated knowledge and experience of the mining industry and risk management will be key to your success in this role.
You will conduct workplace inspections and audits and then prepare reports and notices on the findings related to Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and any electrical aspects applicable to mining operations.
Undertake investigations and prepare reports and materials for the use in enforcement action and industry education.
Liaise with and provide technical advice to stakeholders, professional associations and the community on matters related to WHS in mining and exploration.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months.
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.
This position is located in Kalgoorlie, living in Australia’s largest Outback City is an exciting prospect. The City is a dynamic regional centre offering a comfortable lifestyle, where there is plenty for you and your family to see and do. You will need to travel within Goldfields-Esperance region to conduct your work and will occasionally be required to travel to Perth. * A tertiary vocational or trade qualification in a relevant electrical engineering discipline or qualified as a WA electrician with an appropriate licence.
* Demonstrated knowledge and substantial experience of the practical application of work health and safety legislation and/or risk management principles in an electrical context within the resources sector.
* Experience and skills in investigations, managing emerging issues, changes and projects.
* Demonstrated ability to listen, understand and adapt communication style to suit a range of audiences, including the ability to negotiate effectively and convey information and structures via written and oral communication.
