Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Wastewater Treatment Operator to join our team. This role supports the provision of effective wastewater treatment services to the residents of the Fraser Coast by assisting in the efficient operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
You will be part of a supportive team dedicated to maintaining high operational and environmental standards in wastewater management.
Daily Responsibilities
* Assist in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants and sewage pump stations, including handling valves, pumps, chemical usage, clarification, biological treatment, and disinfection.
* Conduct routine plant inspections to ensure optimal operational capability and coordinate maintenance tasks under supervision.
* Monitor, control, and optimise process performance based on sewage strength and hydraulic variations.
* Identify and report faults or operational issues in accordance with statutory requirements.
* Collect samples, perform laboratory tests, and maintain operational records.
* Monitor SCADA and telemetry systems, responding to alarms as required.
* Adhere to safety and quality control procedures, including HACCP principles and ISO standards.
Requirements for Success
* Relevant experience in wastewater treatment operations (ideally) or a related field.
* Knowledge of chemical handling and dosing processes.
* Ability to conduct inspections, troubleshoot issues, and maintain operational efficiency.
* Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
* Willingness to work in compliance with safety, quality, and environmental guidelines.
* Basic computer literacy, including the ability to use monitoring systems and log data.
* Participation in an On Call Roster to provide 24/7 response to STP and SPS emergencies.
Nice to Have
* Certificate in Water Operations or a related qualification.
* Experience working with SCADA and telemetry systems.
