Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation. We do this by undertaking a mix of responsive and proactive programs of work focused on high-risk harms across all industries, aligned to our strategic plan and regulatory priorities. SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator. We’re seeking suitably qualified and experienced inspectors who are passionate about safety and the health and wellbeing of workers and their families. About the roles SafeWork NSW State Inspectors identify, plan and lead work by providing expert information, advice, assistance, education and compliance services about work health and safety (WHS) and other authorised legislation that contributes to the reduction of harm and/or improved outcomes across NSW workplaces and the NSW community. State Inspector responsibilities include but are not limited to: Participate in legislative and regulatory reviews including codes of practice and associated guidance material, policy and procedures. Represent SafeWork NSW as a technical specialist at a state and national level. Research, examine and identify emerging trends and issues to improve safety and minimise risk. Develop and maintain partnerships with Industry Associations to build industry and community capability, including hosting industry forums representing SafeWork NSW Appling specialist experience, qualifications and knowledge to develop and lead mentoring and training programs for your fellow inspectors. Provide leadership and expertise about emerging safety issues to build industry capability and implement harm prevention strategies. Contribute to driving behaviour and cultural change across NSW workplaces on work health and safety issues. Response Triage and Enforceable Undertakings, Investigations and Enforcement Responsible for identifying, planning, and leading multidisciplinary work across the response, triage, and enforceable undertakings functions of SafeWork NSW. Contributes to the reduction of harm and/or improved outcomes relating to work health and safety (WHS) from triaging and response to incidents and requests for service, and the management and verification of SafeWork’s enforceable undertakings program. Engineering, Specialist Harm Prevention Provide technical engineering input to the national agenda – for example through representation on Australian Standards Committees and/or working with other WHS Regulators Provide technical engineering guidance and support to assist in the conduct of investigations into causes of workplace incidents, injuries and fatalities and where required, provide specialist Engineering relevant sector advice regarding compliance with WHS legislation. Operational Practice, Policy Practice and Programs Have knowledge and understanding of national processes such as Heads of Workplace Safety Authority, SafeWork Australia Members and Strategic Issues Group. Provide advice and information to stakeholders to facilitate the interpretation and implementation of regulatory practice policy. Construction East / Wollongong Provide a strong and consistent focus on building industry capability through strategic and collaborative stakeholder management, evidence and risk-based harm prevention initiatives and a proportionate, targeted regulator response to construction incidents and requests for service. Respect at Work, Capability and Engagement A pply person-centred and trauma-informed approaches to communicate with a range of sta keholders, in particular affected workers Undertake complex workplace inspections, making enquiries, gathering evidence and taking compliance action relating to allegations of sexual harassment and other harmful workplace behaviours. Infrastructure & Renewables, Specialist Harm Prevention Lead the response to complex request for service and response to incidents. Provide technical advice to and input in the development and review of WHS Legislation, Australian Standards, Code of Practice and guidance materials. Essential requirements Relevant experience and/or qualifications in one of the above specialist areas are desirable An Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) or required to complete within 12 months Willingness and ability to undertake work-related travel across NSW and occasionally interstate, work from and stay in remote locations and work outside of usual business hours Hold a current NSW ‘C’ class driver licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment Undertake and achieve a satisfactory criminal record check Undertake and achieve a satisfactory medical assessment capacity regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role Appointment and ongoing assignment may be subject to restrictions and satisfactory participation in mandatory pre-employment and ongoing probity screening in accordance with relevant legislation and/or related policies.
