About:
We are seeking suitably qualified Registered Midwives Level 1 to join our midwifery team. Your professional growth will be supported by our midwifery team including midwives on the floor, Clinical Development Midwives, Clinical Support Midwife and Clinical Midwifery Managers.
Reporting to the Clinical Midwifery Manager, the level 1 Registered Midwife is responsible for providing evidence based, safe and effective midwifery care to women in a supported environment. The midwife is responsible for providing care that meets quality and safety standards and will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and with consumers of maternity services. The level 1 Registered Midwife will lead by example in upholding the values and actively participate in developing a culture that promotes the values and vision within the work unit.
There are a range of positions available, including working directly in one unit, rotational positions across your scope of practice. There are full time, part time and casual positions available.
Multiple positions are available throughout the Women’s, Youth and Children Division including but not limited to:
- Antenatal
- Postnatal
- Birthing
- Canberra Midwifes Program
- Maternity and Gynaecology - Outpatients
Duties:
Under limited direction of the Clinical Midwifery Manager, you will perform the Level 1 Registered Midwife position. You will:
1. Co-ordinate and provide midwifery care in accordance with Policies and Procedures, National Midwifery Guidelines for Consultation and Referral and the relevant legislation.
2. Practice in a way that acknowledges the dignity, culture, values, beliefs, and rights of individuals and/or groups.
3. Promote midwives within the multidisciplinary team as valuable experts contributing to positive outcomes for women and their families.
4. Understand and practice within your own scope of clinical practice.
5. Promote an environment that encourages both individual and team development.
6. Maintain competence, including mandatory education and assessment; participate in the development of policy, procedures, quality activities and clinical meetings.
7. Participate and encourage an environment of active lifelong learning.
8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications:
Mandatory
13. Relevant tertiary level midwifery qualifications and minimum 1 year clinical experience.
14. Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
15. The successful applicant will need to be available for rotational shift work including weekends and night duty.
16. Leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies
17. Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
18. Fulfill the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
