The Role
An opportunity exists for an APS 4 Health Clerk to join a dynamic and collaborative team providing health care services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel in RAAF Richmond. The successful candidate will be required to perform a broad range of administrative and support tasks for a multi-disciplinary health care team. These tasks may include processing admissions, dispatches, reception duties, records maintenance, and the collation and distribution of reports.
The APS 4 Health Clerk is an important member in the Primary Health Care Team model, acting as an essential interface between ADF patients and their health care providers. Their role involves liaison with patients, health professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure support to services.
An APS 4 Health Clerk, is responsible for allocating tasks, monitoring workloads, setting priorities, and streamlining procedures to meet required medical administrative outcomes. They also provide triage support to the health centre and provide coaching and training for new and less experienced team members.

Through the delivery of reliable, resilient and best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition from service.
Health care services are delivered through eight Joint Health regions across Australia. The APS 4 Health Clerk position is part of Joint Health Unit - Northern New South Wales and is based at Richmond health centre, RAAF Richmond, NSW. Each Joint Health Unit facility provides a range of services which can include medical, nursing, dental, physiotherapy, mental health, rehabilitation, and in-patient care.
The JHC workforce is an integrated, multi-disciplinary team of Defence members, civilians, contractors and professional health providers. We work together to manage around one million patient health service interactions with Defence members each year.
The Health Clerk Team is the face and administration hub of the health centre, responsible for managing the initial patient streaming (triage), medical appointments, referrals, specialist bookings and administration processes. This position reports to the Practice Manager and Health Centre Manager.
Our Ideal Candidate
Working as part of the health care team, the ideal candidate will have experience in health administration and an ability to understand and apply medical terminology. They must understand privacy principles and how to handle sensitive and personal medical information in the maintenance of patient confidentiality.
The candidate must be customer focused and able to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders to support the delivery of safe, efficient, and high quality care to patients. They must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to quickly develop rapport and foster effective working relationships.
They will have the ability to lead a small but diverse team, and provide coaching and training to less experienced members. They must be able to adapt to changing work priorities, and to manage their work area accordingly in the achievement of moderately complex tasks.
They must understand and comply with relevant Defence policies and legislative frameworks applicable to their role, and be committed to ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
