The Role Astron places high priority on the wellbeing of its staff with this position being responsible for ensuring the health, safety and environmental compliance of company operations. It involves developing, implementing, maintaining and monitoring safety programs, policies and procedures to safeguard employees, visitors and the environment. The Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) Project Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Support (Administration and HR), Biodiversity, Earth Observation and Natural Capital teams to promote a proactive safety culture and mitigate risks. This position will also provide HSE support to the Project Coordinators and Management team. Reporting to the Biodiversity Manager, your required tasks will include: Provide advice in relation to HSE risk mitigation and client safety induction requirements during the preparation of proposals and tenders Support Project Coordinators and the team through drafting HSE Plans, JHAs, High Risk Assessment forms and Journey Management Plans Coordinate and conduct company safety meetings and safety training sessions for employees to enhance awareness and adherence to safety protocols Provide guidance and support to supervisors and managers on safety related issues Research, develop, update, implement and assist management in the implementation of safety policies and procedures in accordance with relevant legislation and contractual requirements to client and company standards Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess compliance, identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses to determine root causes and implement preventative measures Conduct risk assessments and participate in risk management activities to identify and mitigate workplace hazards Maintain acute records and documentation related to safety, health and environmental activities Prepare reports on safety performance, compliance status and improvement initiatives including performance against client KPIs Positively influence and shape Company culture by ensuring a safe, productive, quality, sustainable and disciplined approach to work Skills and Experience To be considered for this role, you must meet these essential criteria: A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Health Safety and Environment or a related field Demonstrated knowledge of risk management principles and practices and ability to apply the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022 (WA) A strong focus on health and safety, and extensive knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and best practices Proven experience as an HSE Officer or similar role, preferably in the mining or oil and gas sector Strong interpersonal skills (experience in client facing or customer service positions will be looked upon favourably) Excellent multi-tasking and organisational skills, combined with strong attention to detail Ability to work independently and with excellent time management skills Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and develop practical solutions Excellent team working skills The following is desirable: Post-graduate qualifications in a related field Exposure to working with teams working in remote natural environments We are a carbon neutral company and believe in actively trying to make a difference.
