Position: Engineering Manager at National Gallery of Victoria
About the Role:
I'm excited to be working with the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) on an Engineering Manager position. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for driving excellence in engineering services across current and future facilities.
Your new role:
This role oversees engineering strategy, compliance, and team performance, ensuring a high standard of service and environmental sustainability. The Engineering Manager will also provide guidance for engineering projects associated with the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation, contributing strategic insights on digital transitions, such as the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Smart Building technologies. They will also engage with various NGV departments, including Exhibition Design, Conservation, IT, and external partners such as MAPCo, Victorian Arts Centre engineering teams, and Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
* Strategic Leadership: Support the Head of Facilities and Security in delivering compliant, innovative, and professional engineering services, including developing strategic frameworks and policies.
* Team Management: Lead and motivate the Engineering team (internal and external), instilling a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
* Engineering Strategy & Planning: Develop strategic plans, prepare high-level reports, and advise on critical projects and upgrades, ensuring alignment with NGV's objectives.
* Sustainability Focus: Lead environmentally sustainable engineering initiatives to reduce NGV's carbon footprint, with an emphasis on optimising energy and water usage.
* Contractor & Resource Management: Oversee all outsourced engineering services, including procurement, contract negotiation, and performance management, while actively managing operating and capital budgets.
* Compliance & Security: Ensure all engineering systems adhere to data and cybersecurity requirements and align with the NGV's Information Management policies.
* Project Support: Provide high-level guidance for NGV Contemporary and Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation, offering expert reviews on project documents and promoting best practices in engineering.
What you'll need to succeed:
* Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is essential. Additional certifications in Project Management or Smart Building technology would be advantageous.
* Experience: Strong background in essential engineering services, with experience in major facilities, particularly in public-facing environments, like museums or cultural institutions.
* Leadership: Proven skills in leading teams, setting clear goals, and fostering a culture of high performance and professional growth.
* Influence & Negotiation: Skilled at building consensus and managing diverse stakeholders to gain support for major initiatives.
* Service Excellence: Client-focused approach with a proactive approach to service, issue resolution, and risk management.
* Contract & Project Management: Experienced in managing contracts and projects, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with budgets and timelines.
* Industry Insight: Stays current on engineering trends, sustainability practices, and digital advancements like BIM, supporting innovation at NGV.
Additional Skills/Experience:
* Knowledge of Risk Management, Occupational Health and Safety principles, and Australian Building Codes.
* Familiarity with BIM, Smart Building technology, and building management systems is advantageous.
