Wunan Health is seeking a Senior Medical Officer to join our team in Kununurra, Western Australia. As the Senior Medical Officer (SMO), you will be responsible for overseeing and providing clinical care in Kununurra and surrounding communities, in line with regional best practice guidelines and protocols, and accepted professional standards. More specifically, some of your day-to-day duties will include:

Responsibilities (among others):
* Leads the WH medical service team, in conjunction with Practice Manager, to include rostering medical staff to ensure appropriate cover and skill mix and ensures effective leave management strategies are in place.
* Supports the Executive Management Team on medical resourcing and strategies to ensure effective medical services within WH.
* Supports recruitment, orientation and performance development of all staff under direct supervision in conjunction with Practice Manager and Clinical Coordinator.
* Prepares and conducts, or where appropriate, delegates professional reports, reviews and other investigations, and provides a medical professional consultancy service as required.
* Liaises with appropriate medical staff on issues of clinical importance affecting Wunan Health.
* Ensures WH medical staff conducts their duties in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and legislation.
* Ensures that Clinical Incidents and complaints are escalated to the PM and Clinical Medical Director as appropriate.
* Ensures timely teams reporting of notifiable diseases to the Kimberley Population Health Unit.
* Liaises regularly with the CMD regarding clinical and medical administrative/management issues.
* Contributes to health service planning and policy at local level and provides input at regional and state level as required.
Job Requirements - Essential:
* A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a medical practitioner
* Demonstrated clinical experience and/or post graduate qualifications commensurate with clinical duties and medical supervisory roles including management, public health, medical administration or health training.
* Good understanding of Indigenous Health issues and work within a cross-cultural environment.
* Highly developed communication, conflict resolution skills. Interpersonal, team negotiation, conceptual and analytical skills with proven ability to implement strategy and policy.
* Current knowledge of legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Safety and Health, and how these affect employment and service delivery.

Pre-employment requirements:
* Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
* Satisfactory Working with Children's Check
* Qualified General Practitioner who has, or is eligible for, full registration with AHPRA
* Meeting citizenship/residency or visa requirements
* Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license.
* Evidence of registration by the Medical Board of Australia must be provided prior to commencement
