We're a K-10 School of 200 students situated on Lardil Country within a Community of Islands in the Gulf of Carpentaria, far North West Queensland. We invite the young people of the Community to Thaldi Bana Merri - "come and learn", as we teach and learn the Curriculum through connection to Country, Culture and Language.
Our Nutrition Centre plays a key role in our school by providing breakfast, lunch and healthy snack options for all our students, ensuring they have the fuel they need to be successful learners.
As the Cook (OO3) you'll apply your cooking and food-handling skills, your ordering and stocktaking experience, combined with your high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene to successfully manage our Nutrition Centre.
About the Role
Responsibilities include:
* Guide kitchen staff in appropriate cooking and food preparation techniques.
* Ensure kitchen equipment, utensils and the handling of food and preparation of meals is performed in a hygienic and safe manner.
* Monitor the use of kitchen appliances and equipment and advise when items need replacing, repairing or removing.
* Oversee the serving of meals, washing up and disposal of scraps.
* Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of food preparation surfaces, cold room shelving and internal shelving in refrigeration and freezer units.
* Demonstrate safe and effective use of kitchen appliances to kitchen staff and students and provide training in their use.
* Ensure food storage is appropriate, hygienic and in accordance with the standards outlined by health controlling authorities within relevant legislation and regulations.
* Order and receive stock and maintain inventory.
