About The Facility
The Barwon Health Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 24-bed ICU, providing tertiary critical care services to the Barwon South Western region. The ICU cares for medical, surgical, and cardiothoracic adults, as well as collaborative programs to care for adult ECMO and critically ill children. The ICU is actively involved in clinical research, critical care education for Deakin School of Medicine, and education and training of junior doctors and nurses.
About The Role
An exciting opportunity to complete a Discovery Program in ICU nursing. The successful applicants will have acute nursing experience, excellent communication skills and a motivation for continued professional development.
Successful applicants will be supported with our well-established structured program.
The Program
The ICU Discovery Program is offering Division One Registered Nurses who are interested in working in ICU an opportunity to participate in our well-established entry level 6-month orientation program.
The Discovery Program will assist nurses in learning new advanced clinical skills, application of critical thinking & advanced clinical knowledge to enable them to safely care for the ICU/HDU patient.
The nurse who has successfully completed the ICU Discovery Program is encouraged to apply for the Graduate Certificate or higher in Intensive Care Nursing.
The Discovery Program is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to:
* Experience and practice intensive care nursing in a supportive environment
* Provide the foundation knowledge and skills required for working in ICU
* Gain competency in essential intensive care clinical skills and develop skills in assessment and management of adult and paediatric patients.
* Supernumerary orientation days
* 5 educational study days
Requirements
Completion of a Graduate Year Program
Recent acute medical or surgical experience
