The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill the role of Project Manager (EL2) in the Data Sourcing Division to help us establish a digital first survey platform as part of modernising our data acquisition.
About the role The Data Sourcing Division is responsible for sourcing the data needed to produce independent and reliable information on a wide range of social, environmental, and economic matters. We aim to provide a seamless, digital first approach to data provision which meets the needs and expectations of our individual, household, business, and government providers.
The role will be part of a larger Program that identifies, develops and implements future focused investments that reduce the cost and risk of data sourcing and support improvements to the provider experience, and deliver a more modern, efficient, partner led Data Sourcing Division. Our work ensures our staff are skilled, agile and engaged in meaningful roles.
This project will focus on the delivery of a new survey platform that is streamlined, not-bespoke, and easily integrated within the existing Data Sourcing and ABS environment. The survey platform will provide a cloud-based solution for survey development and offer templates and survey libraries to aid in the development of standard, digital-first designs. The project will focus on delivering a digital first survey environment for users.
The Project Manager has authority and responsibility on a day-by-day basis to deliver the required outcomes/deliverables associated with the project (budget, schedule, benefits, scope). This includes:
Accountability for the creation of strategies for the effective planning, monitoring, reporting and delivery of projects and deliver on the Program's vision by contributing to the delivery of outcomes of benefits from the project.Provide business critical expert advice to senior leaders, agency executives, and external stakeholders to contribute to strategic and investment planning, delivery of outcomes of benefit, and effective change management across the ABS.Apply high level and independent judgement, complex analysis an interpretation in choosing a course of action to manage highly complex and/or sensitive issues and risks to the Program and ABS.Provide leadership and direction to project and enabling teams and ensure employees maintain a high level of specialist, professional and/or technical expertise, and promote a positive change culture and continuous improvement.Build and sustain mutually beneficial relationships, consult and share information within the team and across the Program to maximise programme and business outcomes.Work with the PMO and senior leaders to contribute to and implement the Program Governance Framework to ensure the overall integrity and coherence of the projects within the Program.Communicate and make decisions that may have a significant impact on the day-to-day operation of the project and/or other projects within the Program and escalate and engage with relevant stakeholders and leaders as required.Develop project artefacts and tools to manage risks, issues, dependencies and stakeholders and to ensure that they align to the strategy and direction contained in the Program Management Plan.Reporting on project delivery, including deliverables and benefits within the agreed boundaries (i.e. quality, time, cost, and scope).Leadership responsibilities, capability uplift and work management to the project team, and Project Lead.What we are looking for (selection criteria) To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:
