What you'll be doing
This position offers senior medical trainees the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills in the disciplines of Cardiology, Geriatric or General Medicine within a tertiary institution. The unaccredited advanced trainee in these roles must have successfully completed the RACP Divisional Clinical Examination.
Unaccredited Trainees will provide patient care under the supervision of a Consultant Physician (Attending Medical Officer) who has the legal responsibility for the care of the patients. There is an expectation that all consultants are available for direct or telephone consultation regarding issues of patient management. Within the hospital the trainee will in turn supervise junior medical staff, usually PGY1&2. They will also provide some assistance and supervision to basic physician trainees allocated to the Department.
Unaccredited trainees will communicate regularly with the following: Their junior medical staff, Nursing staff Allied health professionals, Secretarial staff, General Practitioners, They will also be required to liaise closely, either in person or by telephone with their supervising consultant and the departmental manager. The purpose of such communication is to ensure that all involved in patient care are fully informed of issues relevant to the management of such patients. Such communication is facilitated by formal and informal meetings including scheduled case conferences, educational and training meetings and departmental meetings. Attendance at these meetings is mandatory.
Day to day clinical management decisions, prioritisation of activities and appropriate delegation skills, Supervision and delegation of decision making responsibility will be provided by the Attending Medical Officers and designated supervisors in a flexible and ongoing way that is consistent with that provided to vocational trainees undertaking advanced training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Unaccredited Trainees are given responsibility for patient care that is graded according to their experience and demonstrated competence level.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Completion of at least three postgraduate years
3. Successful completion of the RACP Part 1 and be enrolled with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
4. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education, excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement, research and teaching in Cardiology with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care.
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team - diligence, punctuality, organization, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills, team work.
7. Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues.
