Overview
Joining a friendly and supportive health care team, you will provide a comprehensive ‘Arts in Aged Care’ therapy service to Aged Care Residents and their families/carers across all areas of Strathalbyn Aged Care. You will be responsible for planning, documenting, implementing and evaluating programs which offer a range of therapy-based and therapeutic arts activities and interventions. These activities will be aimed at supporting residents’ participation whilst simultaneously promoting overall health and wellbeing within the aged care community. Evaluating residents’ reactions and behaviours during therapy sessions, you will monitor their physical, cognitive and emotional wellbeing. You will ensure that music and art supplies and equipment are adequately stocked and strive to promote the benefits of music and/or art therapy services within the aged care facility and also with external stakeholders. Contributing and working collaboratively as a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will be interacting with carer staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals, as well as other aged care service providers.
You will hold a Bachelor or Master’s Degree of Art Therapy with eligibility for registration with the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapy Association (ANZACATA), or a Bachelor or Master’s Degree of Music Therapy accredited by the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and Registration with AMTA with requisite continuing professional development set by AMTA. Demonstrating patience, empathy and creativity and a passion for art and/or music, you will bring the ability to apply sound knowledge of art theory and art teaching skills across the continuum. Excellent observational and counselling skills, along with effective communication skills, will be essential.
