The Opportunity The Human Development and Community Wellbeing Team conducts research across the lifespan from conception, childhood, and youth to adulthood and the social determinants that impact and influence outcomes. The team’s focus is on the broader life course of individuals and communities within the family, school, and online environments, and includes economic evaluation of programs and outcomes. We are seeking a quantitative early-career senior research officer to join our team and contribute to an MRFF-funded project investigating the causal impacts of COVID-19 lockdowns on the health of Australian children. This role provides an opportunity to gain valuable research experience while collaborating with an experienced team of economists, paediatricians, and clinical psychiatrists. The successful candidate will develop skills in research, stakeholder engagement, data dissemination, and knowledge translation, supporting both career advancement and academic development. Some of your duties will include but are not limited to: Understanding the research question(s), assessing available data, and developing an appropriate analysis plan. Conducting statistical analyses within a reproducible research framework. Preparation of research papers for publication in academic journals. Identifying funding opportunities, assisting with data requests and funding proposals, and potentially leading smaller proposals with support from senior investigators. Contributing to mentoring, supervising and capacity building of students. Actively participating in meetings with Investigators, the research team and external stakeholders to communicate results and provide feedback. Conveniently based at Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, this is a full-time, two-year position. About You To be successful in this role, you must have a recognised PhD in a health or social science related discipline (e.g., Health Promotion, Public Health, Psychology) or economics, hold and relevant experience. You will also have demonstrated experience in the following: Applied micro-econometrics and causal analysis techniques. Experience applying a wide range of statistical methods for research, particularly for causal analysis. Experience analysing large and complex individual-level datasets, ideally population survey data and linked administrative data. Proficiency in statistical software for data manipulation and analysis, with a strong preference for STATA, followed by R. Emerging track record of publications, conference presentations, and stakeholder engagement, relative to opportunity, with the ability to present research findings clearly and effectively. Experience with broader research processes, including grant applications, human research ethics approvals, data requests, and reporting.
