Control the daily operations of a business unit (including commercial units where relevant) within a Correctional Centre. Supervise prisoners on a daily basis and actively participate in their rehabilitation through work and program activities and monitor and maintain the security of the correctional centre
In this role you will:
1. Supervise the behaviour and activities of prisoners on a daily basis in accordance with the centre/facility's routine
2. Develop productive relationships with staff, management, professionals, police and other agencies
3. Assist in the rehabilitation of prisoners by participating in or overseeing their work or activities and contributing to case management functions within the centre
4. Identify prisoners who may be at risk and advise relevant staff in a timely manner
5. Interact with prisoners and respond to their needs through the provision of services in an appropriate manner within relevant guidelines and rules
6. Encourage prisoners to participate in programs to maximise their opportunities for rehabilitation
7. Report details or incidents and behaviour of prisoners for the purpose of the sentence management process
8. Participate in the reception, induction and discharge of prisoners in accordance with procedures
9. Assess prisoner needs prior to action and giving consideration to traditional cultural values
10. Prepare reports on relevant activities and maintain appropriate records
11. Perform other administrative duties as required
12. Monitor and maintain the dynamic and static security requirements of the correctional centre or facility, reporting any unusual behaviours or occurrences which could result in a breach of security
13. Undertake searches and perform escort duties of prisoners both within the centre and externally when required
14. Ensure you respond to emergency or security breaches in accordance with prescribed procedures and processes
15. Prepare and submit accurate incident reports/ statements/ records concerning notifiable incidents
16. Identify and respond appropriately to potential security risks and illegal activity
17. Provide reports concerning equipment damage, defects or loss and maintain accurate administration records
18. Restrain and control non-compliant prisoners in accordance with policies and guidelines and ensure participate in annual training in control and restraint to maintain competence
19. Participate in all training as directed by the Agency including the ongoing maintenance and current competence of all qualifications including, but not limited to Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) and other annual training requirements
20. Maintain a professional appearance at all times by wearing the QCS issued uniform in accordance with Agency uniform standards
21. Comply with all QCS policy, procedures and legislation including the applicable Code of Conduct
22. Provide training to prisoners in relation to workshop and/or industry activities
23. Coordinate and schedule prisoner activities to achieve quality and production targets
24. Implement and maintain prisoner employee induction processes
25. Oversee and guide prisoners in the production of a variety or goods and services
26. Liaise with centre management staff in relation to the employment of prisoners in the industries area
27. Contribute to the provision of a safe environment for prisoners and staff by ensuring safe operating practices are adhered to
28. Assist in the preparation of an operational plan, budget estimates and the effective budget management for industries financial resources
29. Actively participate in procurement processes and stock control procedures
