We are seeking EL 1 Nuclear Engineers and EL 1 Technical Specialists to join the Chief Engineer Nuclear Directorate within the Design Control Branch.
These roles will be exercising delegated Technical Authority for the design, development, maintenance and operation of the nuclear-powered submarine fleet.
Applications are open to Engineering, Technical and Applied Science Professionals from applicable industries.
Specific areas for these roles include: Safety and Operations Nuclear Systems Reactor Pressure Vessel & Core Radiological Controls Nuclear Field Office Secondary Systems Decommissioning and Disposal Australia is leveraging the technology, capability and design expertise from the UK and US and these roles will be involved in developing and defining the ASA's Design Control capability for Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants to cover the full life-cycle of design, construction, operation, maintenance, installations and infrastructure, and decommissioning within the Australian context.
The duties of an EL 1 Nuclear Engineer and Technical Specialist may include: Accountable for exercising assigned engineering/technical authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations.
Lead, plan and deliver critical and very complex engineering/technical activities within a specialist field and provide advice under broad direction.
Translate and apply high level goals and outcomes, identify issues and uncertainties and incorporate these into advice, planning, decision making and implementation.
Implement engineering/technical knowledge and processes within a specialist field to develop advancements to established engineering/technical principles, techniques and methods.
Evaluate engineering/technical packages, including scoping, planning, and reviewing, to maintain the design intent through life of the Nuclear Reactor.
Execute any Safety Delegations that may be assigned through monitoring and ensuring safety aspects have been considered and addressed.
Participate in the due process system for relevant Reactor Plant Safety Case (RPSC) changes providing system analysis and reporting on results.
Assist the management of Authorisation to Operate within scope of their delegation.
Investigate and recommend/endorse permissions to operate (i.e.
Control Certificates).
Provide analysis and reports at the appropriate level for Upkeep, Upgrade and Update.
Evaluate, review, and report on alternatives and impacts regarding Concessions & Departure from Design Intent (DDIN) for relevant systems.
Assist development of relevant operating documentation.
Support other duties as assigned.
These positions include both local and international skills development activity.
The international placements will be in the US or UK for a period of 2 to 3 years.
