The Global Merchant Services (GMS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express' revenue: Merchant discount revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the ideal pricing structure to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, we drive merchant revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, more flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions.
How will you make an impact in this role?
This Analyst position sits in the Merchant Services Asia Pacific (APAC) Pricing team within GMS Pricing and is responsible for providing analysis and support for various regional merchant negotiations as well as broad-scale pricing initiatives aimed at preserving our merchant discount rate while balancing the organization's goal for profitable charge volume and merchant expansion.
1. Assist with the management of core central processes including Merchant Pricing Reviews, Custom Contract Reviews and Deal Tracking
2. Partner with Global Pricing Teams on these processes and be the key contact for the APAC region.
3. Manipulation of data sets to provide analysis and insights on core processes.
4. Evaluate and develop efficiency improvements on processes and partner with Global teams to implement these.
5. Provide technical support on business cases for various merchant pricing scenarios and model P&L impacts.
6. Provide strategic and analytical support on negotiations with APAC merchants. Support discussions Client Management and Acquisition teams to facilitate this.
7. Contribute to strategic initiatives and assist to develop relevant insights critical to pricing initiatives from ideation through to initiative measurement.
Qualifications
8. Strong aptitude for analytics. Demonstrate ability to develop sophisticated pricing models and draw value-add insights from large amounts of business data.
9. Ability to articulateplex ideas with brevity, simplicity and impact.
10. Ability to work under time pressure and meet tight deadlines.
11. Highly motivated with strong sense of accountability, initiative and a "can-do" attitude.
12. Flexibility to function in a fast-paced environment, while bringing a positive energy to the team.
13. Quantitatively oriented and highly numerate -fortable with thinking through the "quick math".
14. Problem solving, planning and analytical skills to facilitate and focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
15. High level of proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
16. Knowledge of VBA, SAS and/or SQL an advantage.
