We currently have an exciting vacancy for a books commissioning editor on the Routledge Education list focusing on the Australian and New Zealand market. This role involves the proactive commissioning of a wide range of books, managing the frontlist programme of new manuscripts for production, and developing the education portfolio of books in Australia and New Zealand.

What you’ll be doing:
Commissioning for the Education list to meet annual targets and revenue goals
Actively seeking out new authors and commissioning new professional titles and textbooks
Working with an Editorial Assistant to ensure manuscripts are submitted on time and handed over to production on schedule
Identifying market needs and recruiting authors to write books that meet these needs
Evaluating book proposals and soliciting peer reviews
Proposing suitable projects to the publishing committee and negotiating contract terms with authors
Working closely with authors and internal teams to ensure that goals are met
What we're looking for:
Strong commercial awareness and excellent networking skills
Experience working in academic publishing in an editorial role; book commissioning experience preferred
Ability to organise and prioritise numerous tasks
Excellent team-working skills
Ability to work with demanding stakeholders in a diplomatic manner
Resourceful and proactive attitude
Good publishing business awareness
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and database skills
Experience travelling independently
A background in Education is not necessary but would be an advantage

The successful candidate will need to live within a commutable distance of our office in Melbourne.
Some travel around Australia and New Zealand will be expected
