It is a 2nd line independent control function responsible for overseeing the Business Lending and Private Wealth credit risk lifecycle (origination, evaluation, approval, monitoring excluding problem loan management) including compliance with the Credit Risk Management Framework and Credit-related prudential standards (including APS220, 221, 112 and 113).The Senior Manager Credit, Diversified role sits within the Business and Wealth Division. In this role, you will be part of a team of Credit risk professionals who are responsible for credit approval, portfolio management, credit policy along with relevant controls and process, systems, and data across all Westpac’s credit portfolios.The Senior Manager, Diversified Credit QLD is responsible for the credit quality and control environment supporting the diversified portfolios in the Commercial Business, credit controls and processes. This is achieved via management of the QLD Diversified credit decisioning team, the management of credit risk appetite, monitoring of controls and credit portfolio and the management of credit operating strategies, policies and procedures that align with the strategic objectives of business partners.Collaboration will be key, and you'll work alongside peers to foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement.Building and maintaining stakeholder relationships is also a critical part of this role, where you’ll influence enterprise leaders to enhance risk monitoring and implement robust control practices.Major accountabilities of position:Credit Decisioning and Credit Risk LeadershipA senior credit delegation holder for Diversified team in QLD who will use their delegated credit authority to approve transactions and lead credit strategy.Professional and proactive management of the portfolio to ensure optimal credit quality and effective account control. Maintains the Bank's credit standards and business service quality for the location.Lead and manage the Diversified credit decisioning team in QLD to ensure that all credit decisions are soundly based (within delegated authorities), involve appropriate research and analysis and reflect the Group’s (and where relevant Divisional) credit underwriting standards, policies, and credit risk appetite.Regular oversight of local portfolio to recognise and monitor trends, loss/provision ratios, secondary watchlist, risk/reward returns and remedial strategies and reviews as appropriate. Ensures early identification of weak / poor credits for more intensive remedial management.Ensures that all credit decisions are soundly based, involve appropriate research/analysis, and reflect the Bank's current underwriting standards, policies, and risk appetite for the segment. Applies appropriate hindsight feedback to team members to support skill development.Ensures that credit decisions are communicated in a constructive manner including consideration of alternatives to make the risk acceptable.Credit Policy and Portfolio Management:Work with the Executive Manager, Diversified on the development and implementation of credit risk policies and the operational processes and controls to support credit policy requirements.Work with Credit Portfolio Management to proactively manage the credit portfolio to ensure alignment with the Group credit risk management framework and Credit Risk Appetite.Provide regular senior management reporting and analysis to ensure the appropriate governance and escalation of credit issues, including credit risk concentration, impairments, emerging issues, and incidents.People and Common leadership responsibilities:Lead the Diversified Credit team in QLD including leading and embedding risk culture, including employee selection, performance management, development, and succession planning.Contributes to talent development of the Diversified and broader Credit Risk team and supports strategic people objectives.Leads Westpac’s risk culture through being a presence in the business, influencing behaviours and driving business engagement in risk management.Engage, inform, influence, and negotiate with stakeholders, particularly key business stakeholders to ensure Business objectives are met within risk appetite.What do I need?To be successful, you’ll need 5-10 years of experience in credit decisioning with an emphasis on cashflow lending or similar risk roles. Graduate or post-graduate (MBA or equivalent) in commerce or business-related discipline, Three years + experience in a leadership position in a corporate environment in financial services or similar. Experience in Risk management across the banking industry. You’ll also bring ability to think and act strategically, strong negotiation skills and experience in commercial or corporate banking.
