Generalist role Government Agency 1 year contract with potential extension
Our client is seeking a candidate to work with the team and assist in provide legal advice and services across a broad range of legal disciplines covering contracts and litigation. You will provide strategic legal advice and analysis across all areas of the law to the broader organisation.
You will have the ability to support and influence executive, liaise with employees and external lawyers and as well as manage your own matters, including litigation matters. You will be tasked with the effective management of the agency's legal function and governance requirements by overseeing the legal interpretation and application of the various Acts and Regulations, together with relevant ancillary legislation. You will also advise and be involved in negotiations for commercial and inter-governmental matters, take carriage of litigation claims, work with external lawyers and advise as to legal risk associated with the agency's activities.
Suitable candidate will be admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer and have possession of an unrestricted Victorian practising certificate. In addition, you will have demonstrated experience in the application of legal principles to a wide range of issues across a range of legal disciplines. You will be customer centric and have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively, building productive working relationships with stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives. You will also have excellent written and verbal communications skills, capable of writing high quality concise advice, reports, briefs and correspondence. Importantly you will have a proven experience in the provision of strategic legal advice including the interpretation and application of legislation in relation to matters arising within a large and complex environment.
