About the role Mater has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Services Manager to work in the team in a permanent full-time basis.
This role is responsible for ensuring that the equipment, buildings and grounds of the Mackay Private Hospital and associated facilities are fully compliant to legislative and industry standards and remain operational for the services they need to provide.
The successful candidate will oversee internal and external resources and contractors to implement the maintenance program.
You will prepare and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring asset lifecycle management aligns with business needs and growth.
The role will report to the Director of Engineering and Maintenance and you will collaborate closely with the General Manager and Finance & Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities Identify maintenance requirements for buildings, grounds, plant, and equipment with regard to risk management and safety regulationsEstablish and maintain maintenance programs that meet relevant standards and health and safety requirementsMonitor plant and equipment performance to minimize costs and plan for asset replacementMeet customer requirements for operational maintenance needs as defined in the Engineering Service Level AgreementDevelop a positive departmental culture with internal and external customersSource and manage external contractors to meet maintenance and development needs, including contract preparation, monitoring performance, and maintaining a contracts registerOversee and coordinate delegated engineering projectsOperate and manage the electronic maintenance system to minimize operational inconvenience and ensure plant is maintained according to standardsContribute to quality improvement initiatives to ensure excellence in consumer services and patient careActively work on building related issues within current skillset and support team members to achieve the best outcomes for the siteEnsure proper training and support for Engineering team membersParticipate in an on-call roster providing 24x7 maintenance supportOrganisation Responsibilities Ensure all staff and contractors adhere to Workplace Health & Safety requirementsFoster a customer satisfaction-focused environment and participate in meetings as requiredParticipate in quality improvement activities and professional developmentAdhere to all Mater policies and undertake other duties as directedLeadership and People Management Ensure adherence to Mater's Code of Conduct and Behavioural StandardsManage team recruitment, induction, and separation in line with policiesProvide training and development opportunities for team membersConduct performance reviews and career development conversationsMaintain a cooperative work environment with open communicationEnsure effective succession planning and manage staff time recordsDevelop and manage cost centre budgets, adhering to approved parametersApprove operating transactions in line with Mater's DelegationsReview resources and practices to minimize expenditure while maintaining service deliveryMonitor operational and project costs for the cost centreAbout you To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
Mandatory Engineering, trade or equivalent experience in managing a maintenance service in a healthcare setting;Extensive knowledge and experience of building services and plant and equipment maintenance;Experience in managing contractors;Experience in managing small to medium size projects;Analytical and problem solving attributes as it relates to building infrastructureExcellent interpersonal and written communication skills;Sufficient business acumen to develop and work within budgetary constraints and compile business proposals;A comprehensive understanding of Workplace Health and Safety regulations and Risk Management techniques;Proven leadership skills and effective time management practices; andQualifications in Engineering and/or Asset and Maintenance Management.Mater is Queensland's largest and most innovative not-for-profit healthcare service, providing care for almost 700,000 patients a year across a network of 11 hospitals.
