Governology Pty Ltd is a boutique law firm dedicated to improving the governance of not-for-profit organisations—particularly associations. Our team is passionate about helping purpose-driven organisations achieve their mission through expert legal and governance advice.
We are seeking a lawyer eager to develop expertise in corporate governance within the not-for-profit sector. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside three experienced legal professionals with deep not-for-profit knowledge.
You will provide governance and legal advice to a diverse range of not-for-profit clients.
In this role, you will:
1. Engage with NFP clients to assess legal and governance challenges, providing tailored recommendations and solutions.
2. Support senior lawyers in preparing and reviewing company and incorporated association constitutions, advising on legal structures, taxation law, and association governance matters.
3. Conduct legal research and draft letters of advice on various matters, including association and corporate law, board matters, mergers and amalgamations, membership structures and general meetings.
4. Assist in the development and application of Governology’s in-house legal templates.
5. Contribute to governance training modules for clients.
6. Manage and maintain client files effectively.
7. Participate in marketing and business development initiatives as needed.
Who We’re Looking For
1. A practising certificate entitling you to practise law in Australia.
2. A keen interest in governance and not-for-profit law.
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts in plain English.
4. Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects.
5. High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PPT etc.
Highly Desirable:
1. Experience in the not-for-profit sector.
2. Knowledge of Corporations Law, company secretarial duties, or governance frameworks.

Further Details
Ideally, the position is 4-5 days a week, however, candidates looking for casual, part-time or full-time work are encouraged to apply. Our offices are at Artarmon on Sydney’s north shore, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work mainly from home. Full training will be provided.
