About the opportunity
This is your opportunity to take on a leadership position in the team increasing the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) in NSW. Australia’s EV uptake, including rates of EV uptake in NSW, are significantly behind fast-growing global markets. Help us tackle the challenges of:
1. persistent barriers to EV uptake
2. empowering customers to make informed decisions about their current and future vehicle choices
3. the charging infrastructure gaps occurring across regional and metropolitan NSW
4. addressing the integration of EV’s across NSW’s energy grid.
The team delivers $330 million in initiatives focusing on fleets, public EV charging and consumer information, to accelerate the uptake of EVs in NSW.
You will be:
5. working in a team that aims to deliver tangible outcomes across 6 major initiatives - from ensuring there is a sufficient mix of charging options across fast chargers, regional destinations, apartment retrofits and kerbside charging, to supporting fleets to transition to EVs and creating a suite of consumer information to inform and empower potential NSW EV motorists
6. contributing to the rapid delivery of a world-class charging network that meets diverse needs across all NSW motorists
7. developing initiatives to support the integration of EVs into the electricity grid in NSW
8. part of the team delivering substantial emission reductions from the transport sector and supporting the State’s objective to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
As the programs are developed, you will continue to support their successful delivery and be able to look back and say that you were an instrumental part of transforming NSW into the easiest place to own and operate an EV.

EV Fleets - Grid Integration - $105 million (1 role)
As required, your enthusiasm and attention to detail will also be utilised in the delivery of other initiatives designed to support the electrification of fleets.
This role currently has 6 staff and is responsible for managing a programs with a $105 million budget envelope 30 June 2026.
Destination and Kerbside Charging - $30 million (1 role)
The role is responsible for the management of two nation-leading programs that are aimed at supporting the rollout of EV charging infrastructure in different settings.
This role is responsible for managing 7 staff and delivering these programs within a $30 million total budget envelope through to 30 June 2026.
About You
By joining our team, you will bring your professional expertise and passion to work on key programs and initiatives that support the transition to net-zero emissions in NSW. You are a strong collaborator who can form productive partnerships throughout the program lifecycle through effective communication, negotiation and issues management to ensure project, program and portfolio objectives are met. You value continuous learning, learning from mistakes and driving innovation across your program delivery.
You will have 10 years’ experience in sustainability, environmental engineering, environmental management, environmental consulting, renewable energy and/or sustainability roles delivering strategic energy, transport and emissions reduction projects.
To be successful in the role you will have strong experience in managing complex, dynamic and high-profile projects and work teams. You work collaboratively with diverse and sensitive stakeholders to achieve and optimise business outcomes. You will streamline delivery by managing competing demands and priorities and understand issues impacting program objectives and deliverables.
Key knowledge and experience
9. Superior knowledge of operational requirements for successful delivery of sustainability, transport, energy, climate change, resilience, adaptation and/or net zero emissions programs.
10. Project management skills demonstrating the ability to deliver agreed outcomes on time, on budget, and to quality standards, and demonstrated time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
11. Experience in strategy development and staff management
12. Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written).
13. Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion and ensure effectiveness, accountability and transparency.
14. Superior understanding of tendering, contract and/or grant management.
Key Accountabilities
15. Undertake a range of program management and support activities to lead the development and delivery of a range of programs within established objectives, including accountability for program budgets and staff management
16. Undertake research and analysis to identify emerging issues and prepare recommendations to issues and/or inform new program activities.
17. Lead aspects of project review to evaluate and provide sound advice and recommendations to improve the effectiveness of strategies, projects, programs and processes.
18. Source, collate and compile data and information to identify emerging issues and track and report on program progress and outcomes against established milestones and deliverables.
19. Stakeholder and working group consultation, engagement and management, both internally and externally.
20. Manage high value consultancy contracts and juggling multiple complex projects simultaneously
21. Prepare program documentation which may include guidelines, funding deeds, application forms, operating procedures, web tools, templates, technical and best practice guides and FAQs.
Desirable Requirements
22. Understanding of sustainability drivers across government (local and state) or industry and how to use these to drive change.
23. Passion and expertise working with clean technology, the fleets or transport sectors and/or electric vehicles and their enabling technologies.
24. Environmental science, sustainability or engineering disciplines with knowledge of energy and resource efficiency and/or net zero and/or renewable energy and/or transport decarbonisation solutions.
25. Strong program management and delivery experience relating to energy efficiency, resource efficiency, renewable energy and/or decarbonisation, within the buildings and/or transport and/or energy sectors.
