The Opportunity
We are seeking experienced Leading Hand Tyre Fitter to join the maintenance crew at Pembroke Resource’s new autonomous mine in the Bowen Basin, the Olive Downs Complex.
Pembroke Resource’s Olive Downs Complex is a greenfield project located 40 kilometres South-East of Moranbah which commenced mining operations mid-2023. Thiess has recently been awarded a five-year contract to deliver full-service mining operations, including mine planning overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul (autonomous), water management and rehabilitation as well as the construction of the mine infrastructure.
About The Role
As a Leading Hand Tyre Fitter, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the tyre fitting and maintenance operations for large mining equipment, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective running of our fleet. You will be responsible for supervising and mentoring a team of tyre fitters while ensuring compliance with safety protocols and company standards. This is a hands-on leadership position that offers variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team in a challenging and rewarding industry.
In this role, you will:
Supervise and coordinate a team of tyre fitters, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Perform and oversee tyre fitting, repairs, and maintenance on mining trucks, loaders, and other heavy machinery.
Monitor and track tyre performance, ensuring timely replacements and repairs to prevent downtime.
Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and support to team members.
Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Maintain accurate records of tyre usage, repairs, and inventory.
Collaborate with management to improve processes, efficiency, and safety measures.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tyres, rims, and related components.
Ensure that tools, equipment, and work areas are maintained to a high standard.
About you
As a successful applicant, you’ll be a high-achieving safety-focused individual who enjoys delivering results in a dynamic environment. Your attention to detail coupled with your commitment to delivering high quality work will also ensure your success in this role. The ideal candidate will have:
Current Tyre Fitting qualification (minimum certificate 11)
S1,2,3 and G2 supervising certificates and experience in supervising maintenance activities on an operational mine
Proven experience as a Tyre Fitter, preferably in the mining or heavy industry.
Experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
In-depth knowledge of tyre fitting, repair, and maintenance procedures for mining machinery.
Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and regulations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and the ability to lead by example.
Drivers Licence (HR drivers licence desirable)
High risk forklift licence as a desirable.
Proficiency in excel and other programs desirable
