Please refer to the information package below for further information.Members are responsible for: Having a general understanding of the Act and the powers and functions of the Biosecurity Advisory Committee. Adequately preparing for, attending, and participating in meetings. Adhering to all Biosecurity Advisory Committee policies, including but not limited to the Terms of Reference, Conflicts of Interest, Code of Conduct and Confidentiality arrangements. Acting in the best interests of the Biosecurity Advisory Committee. Acting with the degree of care and diligence that a reasonable person might be expected to show in the role. Providing advice and insights into the relevant member's area of representation. Being aware of changing industry, community and environmental needs and risks. Contributing to the committee's oversight responsibilities regarding the implementation of the Tasmanian Biosecurity Strategy 2023-2027. The Biosecurity Advisory Committee meets a minimum of four times a year (other than January and December unless agreed upon) or as required. Meetings are held via a hybrid arrangement of in-person and online (Microsoft Teams). A time commitment of approximately ten hours per quarter is required and includes preparing for and attending meetings.Sitting fees are determined by the Minister and are currently set at $347 per sitting day for a member. About The Organisation The Biosecurity Advisory Committee (BAC) is established under Section 267 of the Biosecurity Act 2019. The Biosecurity Advisory Committee provides advice to the Minister for Primary Industries and Water and Secretary on any matter related to biosecurity, in particular: the requirements of a comprehensive and effective biosecurity system for Tasmania, and necessary linkages to other biosecurity systems (national and international); opportunities to improve industry and community awareness of biosecurity; opportunities to improve collaboration in achieving improved biosecurity outcomes including preparedness for biosecurity emergencies; any other biosecurity related matter referred to the Committee by the Minister or the Secretary. The Biosecurity Advisory Committee consists of 12 persons and includes a mix of skills and representatives from a range of industry sectors across the State, all of whom are appointed by the Minister for Primary Industries and Water. Selection Criteria Applicants are required to have knowledge or expertise in the following areas: Essential Experience: Knowledge and experience in science, industry and community liaison and education; Experience representing tourism industries; Or State service employee. Desirable Experience: An understanding and awareness of the Tasmanian biosecurity risk profile. Understanding of corporate governance principles. Previous experience in an advisory role. Essential Skills & Attributes: High level strategic policy and advisory experience. Ability to read and interpret information. Ability to engage in evidence-based discussions. Genuine interest in biosecurity. Desirable Skills & Attributes: Ability to research and prepare papers. Ability to present information and lead discussions. Experience in communicating and effecting change.
