Summary: The Mechanical Lead Hand plays a key role in ensuring WSPR and all its programs run smoothly under the general supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor. This position involves hands-on work with refrigeration, boilers, air conditioning, and chilled water systems, as well as coordinating maintenance with contractors.
Job Duties & Accountabilities:
* Oversees preventative maintenance to minimize disruptions in services to public.
* Develops and maintains operating instructions and procedures for equipment under their purview.
* Establishes and maintains periodic operational testing schedule for critical systems and equipment with recommendations to supervisors to improve efficiencies and deficiencies.
* Coordinates contractors, schedules work, escorts and observes while on site, to ensure projects are completed on time.
* Provides ongoing leadership and work guidance to Facility Maintenance Workers.
* Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties; diagnose, inspect, trouble shoot, and overhaul electrical control circuits, temperature and pressure controls, and all related refrigeration and pool components using manuals, blueprints, ticketed contractors and equipment knowledge.
* Install, operate, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems; air-conditioning, chilled water systems, and refrigeration units using skilled ticketed contractors where necessary.
* Maintain and adjust heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for optimal performance.
* Operate a variety of equipment used in ice making, resurfacing and related operations.
* Maintain service records for machinery and equipment and work with the COE to meet TSBC requirements.
* Trains employees in arena/equipment maintenance, pool operation and maintenance, security and safety.
* Adhere to safe work practices in line with all regulatory bodies.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Successful completion of high school.
* Pool Operators I and II Certificates.
* 4th Class engineering ticket or Refrigeration Operators Certificate recognized by the BC Safety Authority.
* Three years' experience working in trades from skilled to semi-skilled maintenance and repairs on equipment such as but not limited to general building maintenance, air handling, boilers and large refrigeration units.
* Experience training and providing work direction to staff.
* Experience in janitorial and building maintenance work, including WHMIS.
* Experience with software programs of simple digital control programming.
* Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain strong relationships while promoting a team approach and positive environment.

* Note: Due to WCB Regulations, steel-toed shoes are a requirement for this position.
Salary: Estimated salary range $36.51 - $37.41 per hour based on July 2024 and January 2025 rates.
