Seeking a motivated and qualified candidate for a fully-funded PhD scholarship through CSIRO's Next Generation Graduates Program.
The program aims to equip the candidate with entrepreneurial thinking and skill sets that boost breakthrough innovation in emerging technologies.
Key Project Details:
1. Based at James Cook University in Cairns, collaborating with Cairns Regional Council on urban heat mitigation strategies.
2. Deploying heat sensors to identify high-risk locations affected by the urban heat island effect.
3. Integrating population and demographic data with advanced modelling simulations to develop a strategic urban cooling plan.
This interdisciplinary project addresses complex interactions between urban infrastructure, climate change, and community resilience.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct research relevant to urban heat mitigation in Cairns.
2. Work closely with JCU supervisors and Cairns Regional Council to refine the research focus.
3. Undertake 6 months of placement at Cairns Regional Council as part of research activities.
4. Participate in CSIRO's Next Generation cohort building activities.
5. Receive a highly competitive stipend.
The PhD project will be based at James Cook University under the supervision of A/Prof Lisa Law.
