JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Program Manager/Director, the Registered Nurse is responsible to apply, in the practice setting, nursing theory, practical expertise, an awareness of community services and physiological and principles of health and disease. The RN receives reports from health professionals, obtains related health information, and collates the information for the clinical team at WRCC for triage, further assessment and planning. The position also follows up with patients and or community personnel, relaying WRCC clinical recommendations and orders.
The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable to provide safe, quality patient care within the standard of professional nursing practice and participates in quality initiatives and monitoring activities. The registered nurse complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the organization and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment by reporting unsafe conditions to the Program Manager.
According to the philosophy, visions and strategic directions of Windsor Regional Hospital, the Registered Nurse is responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the delivery of patient and family care, including supportive care and clinical trials, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the application of current theory and research in the delivery of care consistent with the vision and values of the hospital and the standards of relevant professional organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
**Candidates will be considered in the following order:
* 2 years or 3000 hours of recent (within the last 2 years) of Acute Oncology, Chemotherapy experience including demonstrated clinical competence in intravenous therapy, administration of blood/blood products and venous access devices – required
* Completion of de Souza Institute Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course or recognized equivalent - required
* Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in Oncology CON(c) - required (and/or commitment to obtain within one year from program entry)
* 2 years or 3000 hours (within the last 5 years) of RN experience with medicine/oncology patients – required
* Completion of de Souza Institute Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice course – required
* Completion of de Souza Institute Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course - preferred
* Commitment to obtain Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in Oncology CON(c) as soon as eligible as determined by the Canadian Nurses Association Certification Program - required
* 2 years or 3000 hours current (within the last 2 years) of inpatient care areas experience – required
* Completion of de Souza Institute Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice course to be obtained as soon as the course is available
* Completion of de Souza Institute Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course to be obtained as soon as the course is available
* Commitment to obtain Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in Oncology CON(c) as soon as eligible as determined by the Canadian Nurses Association Certification Program - required
* Demonstrates sound assessment skills
* Ability to perform a relevant patient assessment (history and physical assessment) and to prioritize patient needs
* Maintains accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation according to organization wide standards
* Demonstrates effective problem solving/critical thinking
* Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication (interdepartmental, intradepartmental, patient/family)
* Demonstrates commitment to family centered care with respect to advocacy, teaching patient rights, respect, cultural diversity and patient death
* Participates in research projects
* Responsible for ongoing personal professional development
* Assumes in charge responsibility as required
* Assists in orientation of professional colleagues and external partners
* General good health and a level of fitness appropriate for the demands of the position
* Knowledge of the French Language is an asset
EDUCATION/TRAINING EXPERIENCE:
* Current Certificate of Registration issued through the College of Nurses of Ontario
* de Souza Institute Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course or recognized equivalent (required as noted above)
* de Souza Institute Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice course (required as noted above)
* Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in Oncology CON(c) (required within specified timeframe noted above)
* Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in Hospice Palliative Care preferred
* Current CPR Certification required
