The Project
UGL and CPB Contractors have been awarded the early works contract to support Powerlink’s delivery of CopperString 2032. This $5 billion iconic project will initially be approximately 840 kilometres of new transmission line running from just south of Townsville to Mount Isa that will connect Queensland’s North West Minerals Province to the national electricity grid. The project scope includes:
• 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line from just south of Townsville to Hughenden
• 330kV transmission line from Hughenden to Cloncurry
• 220kV transmission line from Cloncurry to Mount Isa, up to six new substation sites.
This exciting project will commence construction in 2024 and we are currently looking for an experienced Construction Managers to join the team on the Copperstring Project.
What will a day in this role look like:
• Lead and oversee the end-to-end construction of green and brownfield substation projects, including planning, execution, outages, and close-out.
• Coordinate with stakeholders, including clients, engineers, and subcontractors, to achieve project objectives.
• Develop and manage detailed project schedules and budgets, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
• Enforce and monitor strict safety protocols and environmental compliance, adapting risk management strategies for high-voltage work.
• Conduct regular site inspections to assess work quality, progress, and adherence to standards.
• Resolve on-site issues proactively and facilitate conflict resolution between team members and subcontractors.

What are we looking for you to bring to the team:
• Minimum of 15 years in power distribution, generation, or heavy civils construction, with at least 5 years in management roles, preferably in high voltage substations or similar projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering or a related field preferred.
• Proven knowledge of high voltage substation construction methods, materials, and regulatory standards.
• Strong understanding of OHS and environmental legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
• Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Relevant construction safety certifications and a valid Construction Card.
